Over the years, many participating artists, both international and national have performed and brought the language of music to life. Invited guests to return with beautiful memories and perhaps food for thought for us. The audience has motivated us to be braver their encouraging words and views. Here, we have strived to bring you these lived anecdotes from the performers, guests and viewers who have become part of the Sur Jahan family.
I would like to express the feeling of Muzsikas members and our two guests, Istvan and Hanga. Back in Hungary after a few days we know that a miracle was what happened to us. The music was great, but it was only a tool, the feeling was much more important because it was the love. We loved you and we felt your love. Being on stage for almost 45 years I can say it does not happen very often. Thank you for everyone for these memorable days, and maybe we do not see each other again, you are always with us. Because all of you are in our heart for ever. Sur Jahan was the best festival in our life.
Dear Sur Jahan, we do not have words to thank you for all your work, organization, work, love for music and peace. You invited musical groups and festival organizers, and promoters, and at the end of the festival we were not anymore separated groups but close friend in the name of music, culture and peace. All the blessing to you and all your collaborators, and all the other musicians and all we met. And all members of Atse Tewodros Project join me to send you a lots of love to all this wonderful Sur Jahan family.
Thank you very much for having us at Sur Jahan 2018! The whole Tuuletar band and all documentary team members feel extremely honoured to have been able to share these two weeks and all expression with you all. We will never forget the wonderful welcome we got.
We are thankful for all the efforts to meet. We want to extend a special thanks to the Sur Jahan team, they did an exceptional job. All the people were truly committed to their work, and shows rare empathy and expertise in all possible situations.
Please pass our thanks also to all the professionals who took such good care of the stage management, sound, lights and camera work at all the venues. What a talent to create such a pro-level atmosphere for us! This experience of love will surely strengthen our relationship both for the band Tuuletar and individuals with banglanatak dot com and between India and Finland.
Let´s be in touch!
Thank you Sur Jahan for this amazing experience.
We are filled up with music, love, sunshine and gratitude.
Love you all very much, greetings from Helsinki.
Although the winter is already in Poland, but Sur Jahan is in our hearts and still very warm after the wonderful experience at your magnificent music festival. We hope our routes will cross again and again.
Common paths, dreams and music, thank you Sur Jahan for an amazing experience, a true celebration of togetherness and love through music, waiting for you in Poland.
Sur Jahan is simply awesome, it was a real privilege to meet you all and feel the warmth and quality music and carnival atmosphere. I must say that these moments were very special for me and will remain in my heart and memories. Blessings to you all ....hope to see you soon again!
The promise was already included, never did we experience friendship through music so warm till we arrived at Sufi Sutra. Thanks so much for this wonderful inter-cultural meeting, surrounded by an amazing team that turned all of us into one big family. I already miss the naan bread, delicious ballafon tunes, claxon chaos and tuktuk taxi and Black kite birds. Also the street sound, newspapers at our doorstep, Portuguese banjo, Brazilian beats and Hungarian humor.
Although living for just two weeks in quite a different culture it felt like coming home. Maybe that’s why turning back to ‘normal’ life took us so long, sleeping for days and troubled with focus when awake. We supposed ‘Must be the jetleg’ but I think because of crossing the bridge between Ganges and Rhine, the distance in hours shrink into nearness in seconds.
So, let’s go with the flow and promise to meet again at the riverbank.
Your Cal-cultural friends.
I can only say THANK YOU a thousand times for letting me be a part of this musical miracle called Sufi Sutra! I felt so lonely and sad that day I had to leave for home. I even miss the food and staff at Blue Chip. We did become this great big family, may God bless you all! It can never be the same with the same people, but I'm so happy I will meet most of you again and again!
Love
It’s Tommy from Atse Tewodros Project, I want to reply to you right now: THANK YOU!!! More than a week passed, and everyday I’m still thinking about the AMAZING experience that was Sur Jahan. It was so deep, so strong, so perfectly organized. I really could feel the “music for all, music for peace” motto, every single moment. From the breakfasts together, to rehearsals, to the stage, to the waiting for people in Goa Hotel’s lobby, to the awesome beach moments…Your job is ENORMOUS. There is culture, music, love, peace, everything. I fell in love with all of you. And your way of thinking music matches perfectly with us and with the world: I love to consider music as a powerful tool to bring and gather people together, no matter from where and which culture or religion. Thank you for everything.
DHONYOBAAD!!!
I begin by thanking ALL that was done for us. All the attention and the kindness you and your team put into each gesture. Thank you very very much.
Concerning your country, India, and especially your culture and your music (... and your food hehehe), which is being offered with gratitude - everything is in my heart.
We have brought friends from various countries, unique experiences and a country that will surely come back for more days. And, last but not least, the great Festival Sur Jahan. All the best for Sur Jahan!!
I do not know if I thank you for giving me the opportunity to witness the valuable experience, I dare to congratulate you on the GREAT organization.
I'll tell you and all, that you have a friend in Cape Verde for what you need
BEST, BEST REGARDS
Sur Jahan is a jewel with very quality of music and super organization, thank you so much.
Mario
Sur Jahan is unique. Reception, Technical, Accommodation - everything was perfect. But there is something else, very rare : this is a festival for the musicians! We can meet all these wonderful people from everywhere, we can discuss, drink, play together and it's totally different nature of tour celebrating togetherness. We are waiting for you in La Réunion.
Truly an amazing experience! To me and all of us at Sur Jahan, we saw the world full of peace and music. I learnt so many things from every musician from all over the world and I hope to see you again someday, somewhere. And definitely be your kind friend and host, when you come to South Korea.
Sur Jahan to me is where Responsible entrepreneurship meets art. I admire your artistic vision in combination with your social business concept. This should be considered a piece of art in itself. Wonderful!!
Sur Jahan is for me the future of world culture, made in India. Living traditions in the best sense: Progressive sprouting roots, artistically on high standards. Every detail of the event is considered important, all cultures are given respect. A multicultural and balanced festival programme that leaves room for actual encounters - the artists are invited to meet.
The good spirit of the underlying 'Art for Life' project comes to light as a blessing. It comes from the same source, from Banglanatak dot com, which leads thousands of rural artists out of poverty. The return of traditional art with great quality in dignity. Respect for what has been achieved meets sober optimisation of the outdated.
I will always remember that the pleasure of living diversity can unite us beyond continental borders like a family. I take this deep experience home as a special gift - your special gift to me!
Sur Jahan is not just a festival.
It’s a meeting place where musicians and listeners get a chance to show their dedication to culture as a force of unification.
In these days of increasing cold intolerance, it’s a watering hole where we all can enjoy the benefits of cultural diversity. Thank you!
Here at Sur Jahan, you feel to be part of community. From the first moment, you are warmly welcomed by team, by artists and by locals. You will get the idea about what is happening at the traditional music across the India but also, you can hear this music "talk" with excellent musicians from other parts of the world which makes unique experience for newcomers but also for skilled music professionals. Sur Jahan is really a harbor for world music family.
I have had the immense pleasure of performing at Sur Jahan in Kolkata, rural W. Bengal, and Goa. These places were all very different, but all united by a common theme: 'music for peace, music for all.' And what comes across so strongly, through collaborations and sharing experiences with other musicians from across the globe is that sense of being part of a diverse family, where music unites us, even where words cannot. Sur Jahan is more than a music festival; it is a celebration of life and shared goals. And where else would you share a train ride with a Bollywood star and get a hug from a guru on the same day? Truly a magnificent artistic and cultural experience.
